Collective Nouns for Animals

Hello! A busy week calls for a quick post. I encountered some fun collective nouns this week and wanted to mention a few here.

Birds

  1. A gaggle of geese
  2. A murder of crows
  3. A parliament of owls
  4. A clowder of cats (wild cats)
  5. A company of parrots
  6. A host of sparrows
  7. A pitying of turtledoves
  8. A descent of woodpeckers
  9. A bouquet of pheasants.
  10. A committee of vultures (while stationary), a kettle of vultures (while flying), a wake of vultures (while feeding).

Mammals

  1. A troop of monkeys
  2. A mob of kangaroos
  3. A sounder of wild boars
  4. A tower of giraffes (when stationary), a journey of giraffes (when moving).
  5. A kindle of kittens
  6. A leap of leopards
  7. A skulk of foxes
  8. A crash of rhinoceroses
  9. A dazzle of zebras
  10. An ambush of tigers
  11. An embarrassment of pandas

Insects

  1. An army of caterpillars
  2. A cloud of grasshoppers
  3. A rabble of butterflies
  4. A scourge of mosquitoes
  5. A mischief of mice
  6. A plague of locusts

Reptiles

  1. A bask of crocodiles
  2. A lounge of lizards
